Fine Dining in the burbs (redux)

Posted by GTC4food on 10/4/2008

Excellent food great atmosphere .. my wife and I looking for a new close fine dining restaurant ... we've gone many times to Mannequin Pis, Wasabe Zen, Indian and Tai restaurant in Gburg. and environs that we hear are good. But we were starting to repeat too many times and found the Inn on the Web; looked at the Menu and it looked great ... and decided to give it a try. Just called to make a reservation an hour or two ahead no problem. We were given a nice little table for two complete with privacy curtains. My wife ordered the champagne drizzled scallops appetizer and filet mignon steak perfectly done. She loved it. I not thinking straight ordered too heavy an appetizer for the the entre, the duck confit and couldn't eat it ... they insisted in taking it back; gave my pick of another appetiser, lighter this time it and the entre were both great as was the desert. Very pleased and they even took the appetizer cost off the bill (even after replacing it). They said it was not a mistake ... we gave a good tip to compensate.. We were very pleased and will definitely try again ... maybe tonight !! =============================================================================== did go back and here is my second review =============================================================================== Did return to Brookeville Farms Inn for diner. Good wines and excellent homemade raisin bread made for the pre-meal munchies. My wife and I ordered the same entrees as our first time, this time for my appetizers I ordered the Brookeville Shrimp and Sweet Corn Bisque with Roasted Corn-Cilantro Chutney and Shellfish Oil soup as well as the Organic Mixed Greens with Candied Walnuts, English Stilton and Sherry Vinaigrette salad as appetizers. The soup was wonderfully flavored ... but too thick for a bisque ... I like my bisques velvety not too creamy or thick. The whole shrimps were very tasty, and wanted to sop up the dregs with some nice french bread but the only table bread was homemade raisin bread(very good) but not a flavor match with the soup. The salad was adequate not well executed with a couple large chucks of Stilton cheese that were somewhat hard/stale. My wife's appetizer again was the Seared Scallops over a Bed of Cauliflower Pure with Lobster-Champagne Drizzle which she liked again but was a little on the bland side this time. My entree the lamb porterhouse was flavored a bit more strongly than last time and a bit tougher as well, but I still enjoyed it. My wife's filet mignon with the whiskey cheddar potatoes side was way over spiced, so much so my wife could not eat it and hoped that it would taste better as a cold plate leftover after doggy bagging home. So unfortunately the second time was not as favorable as the first ... still I would rate a 3 of 5 for atmosphere, service, overall food flavor. The price, however, factored in might ligitimately take it down another half point. But I will leave it at 3 until another time (unfortunately probably not soon). There was a wedding going on at the same time so this could have been affecting the overall kitchen quality. Hope this helps some fine diners ! Regards, GTC4food
